Encouraging Men to Prioritize Health at Community Wellness Event

Men across Baton Rouge are being encouraged to take a more proactive approach to their health through a community event focused on prevention and wellness.

The MANage Your Health event will take place on April 26 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Southern University Seymour Gym. The event is designed to engage men of all ages with free health screenings, wellness information, and opportunities to connect with local health resources in a supportive environment.

Attendees will have access to screenings for key health indicators such as blood pressure, cholesterol, and diabetes. These conditions often go undetected but can have serious long-term impacts if left untreated.

“Nearly half of men in the United States have high blood pressure, a condition often called the silent killer because it typically has no symptoms,” said Dr. Stewart Gordon, Chief Medical Officer of Louisiana Healthcare Connections. “That is why it is so important for men to prioritize regular health screenings and annual check-ups.”

Preventive screenings, including colorectal cancer screenings, are also emphasized as part of overall men’s health. Early detection plays a critical role in improving outcomes, and eligible members may receive incentives for completing recommended screenings.

“This event is about taking charge of your health,” said Joseph St. Mary, Director of Community Partnerships at Louisiana Healthcare Connections. “We want men to feel empowered with the information, resources, and support they need to stay healthy.”

In addition to screenings, the event will feature activities, giveaways, and opportunities to learn more about available health and wellness services in the community.

By bringing care and education directly into the community, events like this help reduce barriers and encourage more individuals to stay engaged in their health.
