Supporting Food Access in Northeast Louisiana Communities

Communities across Northeast Louisiana are receiving additional support to address food insecurity through a recent investment in regional hunger relief efforts.

A $26,000 contribution to the Food Bank of Northeast Louisiana is helping expand emergency food assistance for families facing food insecurity throughout the region. The funding supports increased food acquisition and distribution, enhanced pantry capacity in underserved areas, and mobile food programs designed to reach rural communities.

“Reliable access to nutritious food is essential to maintaining good health, particularly in rural and economically challenged areas,” said Jamie Schlottman, Plan President of Louisiana Healthcare Connections. “The Food Bank of Northeast Louisiana plays a critical role in serving families who face persistent barriers to food access.”

This effort is part of a broader $125,000 investment focused on strengthening food access across Louisiana. Support is being directed to regional food banks statewide to expand services, meet growing demand, and improve access to healthy food in communities where it is needed most.

Access to consistent, nutritious food is a key factor in long-term health and well-being, especially for families, seniors, and children living in areas with limited resources. Strengthening local food networks helps address immediate needs while supporting healthier communities over time.

“This support allows us to strengthen our network of charitable food distribution programs and extend our reach into communities with the greatest need,” said Jean Toth, Executive Director of the Food Bank of Northeast Louisiana. “We are grateful for the partnership as we work to combat hunger in our region.”

By investing in community-based partners, this initiative helps ensure that more families across Northeast Louisiana have reliable access to the food and resources they need.
